Adoption Process

ADOPTION PROCESS

We promote only responsible adoptions. Taking care of all the details and assuring ourselves that the cat or dog that is being adopted are going to have the correct welfare conditions.

THESE ARE THE STEPS TO START THE ADOPTION PROCESS IN SPAIN:

(Adoptions in Germany please visit www.nothunde-la-mancha.com)

  1. PRE-ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE

For us to best know how the ‘new’ life of the animal is going to be you are required to fill in a pre-adoption questionnaire and once it is filled in you need to send it to us via e-mail to animalea@animalea.org with the title ‘Adoption + the name of the animal’. Refugio Animalea will follow closely the adoption process in your home once the adoption is finalized, for this we ask total honesty when filling out the form. It also allows us to give advice with regards the type of animal best meets your needs and the ability to orientate you to readapt your home.

  1. FAMILY CONTROL

This is a personal meeting between those responsible at the refuge and the family that wish to adopt, to talk over the points of the adoption.

  1. ADOPTION CONTRACT

You must be over 18 years old (proof of age is required) and sign a contract that commits you to:

  • Care for the pet and maintain them in optimum conditions, space, time, food, exercise…
  • Provide them with all the necessary vet care they may require. The animal will be given to you with a passport, microchip, dewormed, with the corresponding vaccines and STERILIZED.
  • All our animals are sterilized.
  • You must notify the association of any change of circumstances of the pet (loss, death, accident…)
  • Accept follow-up checks of the animal once in its new home.
  • If you find you cannot keep the animal for whatever reason never abandon it, return it to the association.

4. CONDITIONS OF THE ANIMALS

Adult:

• With a passport and identifying microchip.

• Anti Rabies and other illnesses vaccinations .

• Blood tests for Leishmaniasis, Erlichia, Babesia y Dilofiliaria (Dogs).

• Test de leukemia and feline immunodeficiency (Cats).

• Dewormed.

• Castrated or Sterilized.

• Information of the state of the animal’s health.

Puppies:

• With a passport and identifying microchip.

• Anti Rabies and other illnesses vaccination.

• Desparasitados (interna y externamente).

Future castration. An approximate date will be set for the castration of the animal. All our animals are handed over castrated (if they are healthy), the puppies are castrated when they are old enough. To do that you must bring the animal to the refuge once it reaches the correct age or if the family wishes their own vet to castrate the animal then they must provide us with a certificate from their vet stating that the animal has been castrated and the date. Under no circumstances will any animal be handed over that have not been sterilized or that will not be sterilized when the time comes (just special cases of health problems dogs).

• Information of the state of the animal’s health.

5. COVERIN COSTS

The association does not receive any grants or funding, it is financed with the help personal donations. These are donations cover the vet costs.

When you adopt an animal you are required to donate an amount which corresponds to the afore mentioned vet costs (passport, chip….). If you are adopting a puppy then the future castration cost is included in this amount.

It is IMPORTANT to note that the amount donated is NOT for the adoption of the animal, that is free, this amount is required for us to be able to adopt animals with all the legal requirements of the law and of the refuge. All of these expenses will be justified in the contract conditions. All the money collected goes towards paying vets expenses and for food for our animals.
